Purpose and Vision

We exist to equip and grow the next generation of Christian teachers and leaders for Australian schools who are courageous, convicted and highly capable in the classroom, embedding their training in the ethos of Christian schools.

The Teaching Schools Alliance Approach

A Distinctive Approach to Teacher Training

The Teaching Schools Alliance (TSAS) seeks to re-embed initial teacher training into a formative environment, the school. We are committed to an ecology of learning that is experiential and deeply responsive to context. This approach specifically links the formation of future educational leaders to the ethos of schools.

  • TSAS trainees are immersed in the classroom and supported by a mentor teacher from the commencement of their degree. They have the opportunity to engage with students, be part of a school community and experience the totality of a teacher’s role, ensuring they are not just classroom-ready but school-ready. 

  • Regular meetings with a mentor teacher empower trainees to set and achieve goals, reflect on classroom experience, observe best practice and guide development as a teacher. Mentor teachers support trainees to ensure that their time in the school is a rich and rewarding experience, with a Christ-centred approach. 

  • Engaging with other schools is crucial to the development of trainee teachers. Throughout this journey, trainees will spend time at many different schools. This includes each of the Alliance Schools, as well as professional experience (PEX) in other school contexts.

  • Trainees are supported in their journey by an inspiring cohort of fellow Trainees, school staff and university lecturers, all of whom are dedicated to their formation as teachers. After trainees graduate, they are further supported through the TSAS Alumni community.

  • TSAS is deeply invested in trainee development. Trainees are prioritised for teaching positions in Alliance schools. If no positions are available, TSAS provides additional support to assist the trainee in finding employment in another school.

The Alliance

The Alliance is a Hub of schools that have committed to working together to create a new pathway for initial teacher education. From the outset, trainees work in the classroom while studying at Alphacrucis University College or the University of New England. Trainees studying with UNE are offered additional coursework through Christian Education National.
